The Florida Leadership Forum is dedicated to providing strategic leadership to help solve issues, such as the continuing failure of high numbers of African American businesses and the widening disparity in educational achievement that African Americans and other minorities face throughout the state. With a pro-business philosophy, the newly-created FLF is committed to being a credible and independent organization of action.
The success of the Forum will be largely driven by its ability to work collaboratively with minority and non-minority groups in helping identify success models and strategies which can lead to creative solutions for many of the critical issues facing minority communities.
The non-partisan Forum will focus on and address critical policy issues in core areas which are key to continued economic growth in the state: African American business advancement, education, leadership development, health, community development (including housing) and criminal justice. Other issues will be monitored for appropriate engagement.
Comprehensive research and analysis of the critical issues will be a key part of the Forum's initiatives which will foster and enhance strategic partnerships between the group and Florida's business community, political leadership, government officials, community leaders and citizens.
The Forum is made up of highly-successful business, government, education and community leaders of African diaspora from throughout the state. Many of the Forum members have served as Chief Executive Officers or senior officers of Fortune 500 companies or major minority companies. Individually, executive members of the Forum have long served and worked in their communities to promote economic prosperity. Most Forum members have devoted countless hours to help less fortunate citizens in urban and rural communities around the state.
The Forum will be made up of Florida residents who have distinguished themselves as leaders in business, government, education or the community. Members of the Forum are individuals who have excelled at the highest levels in their professions and they fully endorse the economic development and growth of business in the state of Florida.
These select leaders have also -- during their careers - promoted civic, social and cultural programs which have been designed to strength and expand the income potential of African Americans and their communities.
Membership in the Forum is by invitation only. The Forum is governed by an Executive Committee, headed by the chairman of the board, and made up of other officers and members of the Forum. The Forum, from time to time, will create task forces, work groups and committees who will be responsible for overseeing research necessary for the Forum to carry out its duties.
